Spinal and Nerve Injuries

Spinal and nerve injuries can be the result of surgical or anesthesia errors. Thousands are injured this way every year. Poor pre-operative planning or care, surgeon incompetence and incorrect incisions can all cause damage to the spine and nerves.

Anesthesiologists may inadvertently damage nerves when injecting medications. The needle or the medication itself can damage the spinal cord and nerves. Damage can occur to the ulnar nerve, resulting in numbness, tingling or partial paralysis of the arm. The brachial plexus may also be injured resulting in arm paralysis or lack of muscle control and loss of sensation in the arm, hand or wrist. Lumbosacral nerve roots can also be damaged during epidural injections.
